A Soulful Thanksgiving with Hue-Man Experience

The Hue-Man Experience at Tattered Cover presents barbecue expert, Adrian Miller for a conversation on the history of Black soul food and its relation to Thanksgiving dinner.

This event will take place at our McGregor Square location on Friday, November 12th, at 6pm MT.

Adrian Miller is a food writer, James Beard Award winner, attorney, and certified barbecue judge who lives in Denver, Colorado. Miller’s first book, Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time won the James Beard Foundation Award for Scholarship and Reference in 2014. His second book, The President’s Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families, From the Washingtons to the Obamas was published on President’s Day 2017. It was a finalist for a 2018 NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction,” and the 2018 Colorado Book Award for History. Adrian’s third book, Black Smoke: African Americans and the United States of Barbecue, was published this year and will be available for sale at the event. Learn more about his work here.

The Hue-Man Experience at Tattered Cover is a partnership established with NAACP-nominated businesswoman, Clara Villarosa. Under her guidance, the partnership aims at promoting learning and awareness, while amplifying historically-marginalized BIPOC voices. Learn more here.

Important Event Information: COVID policy

The following safety measures have been put in place for all events to ensure the safety of our staff, speakers, and customers:

Masks for audience members are mandatory throughout the event

No food or drink will be permitted into the event area

Seats will be set up in groups of 2-4 and 6″ in distance from other groups

Social distancing of 6″ with the speakers is required unless the speaker invites customers closer

Customers can expect an authentic, engaging experience each month, taking on a different theme. Events will range from author Q&A’s, panel discussions, topic-based conversations with local experts, networking mixers and everything in between!
