Although I strive to get things right, I am human and I make mistakes. Below are the corrections that I know of for The President’s Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families from the Washingtons to the Obamas.

Corrections
Book Cover Illustration and Inset Illustration–At the time that this book was published, the image was believed to be a portrait of Hercules, President Washington’s enslaved cook painted by Gilbert Stuart. Art historians have since concluded that neither is true. I wish they had figured it out before I put that brother on the cover of my book. Sigh.
William T. Crump–Crump is referenced in several sections of the book. Though one source that I consulted suggested that he was biracial, other sources indicate that he was White.
Page 81–James Polk, not Franklin Pierce, was president when the event occurred.
Page 130–Chef Joe Brown’s encounter with President Garfield occurred July 2nd, 1881, not 1882.
